RadioShack ready to rock and roll with HTC EVO 4G


Are you ready for the next superphone? Just what makes a phone “super” in the first place, you ask? Well, HTC’s EVO 4G fits the bill perfectly – after all, it is the first 4G smartphone in North America, and the good folks over at RadioShack are more than willing to roll out one of these puppies to you, where it will remain a Sprint-exclusive device at the moment. RadioShack customers who are interested will be able to place a pre-order of this exciting new device at any one of more than 4,000 RadioShack stores from May 14th onwards, so if you haven’t done so already, what’s keeping you? After all, it offers far superior hardware compared to the Google Nexus One which was dubbed a superphone by the Big G themselves, so why not check out the hardware specifications right after the jump before taking the plunge?

If you are interested in placing a pre-order, you can do so by picking up a $50 RadioShack gift card that can be applied toward the purchase price of the device, while scheduling an appointment to pick up and activate the device. The HTC EVO 4G is ready to hit participating stores throughout North America from June 4th onwards. With its obvious 4G name penciled in, this means you can now take advantage of incredibly fast downloads on 4G networks where available, not to mention a slew of hardware specifications that will definitely get the geek in you super excited :-

  • A 4.3-inch touch screen that’s one of the largest in the industry, ideal for viewing movies and other rich content
  • An 8.0-megapixel camera on the back for capturing HD video
  • Mobile hotspot functionality that allows up to eight WiFi-enabled devices to connect simultaneously to the Internet

Before you pick it up however, you can further enhance your first-hand engagement at select RadioShack stores nationwide that are deemed to be “HTC EVO 4G experience centers,” which specially trained experts will demonstrate features and benefits on a live HTC EVO 4G handset. Guess this goes down well with Google’s assertion that it will stop selling its Nexus One online anymore simply because the average Joe still prefers to touch and “fondle” their smartphone(s) before coming to a justifiable purchase decision. Wi-Fi Connected Power Strip

If you are like me, you have “that desk” in your house that is sort of the hub for digital information. On the desk is a laptop or desktop computer, and all kinds of accessories. Chances are, all of these devices are plugged in to a power strip, and they are a source of great power consumption on your monthly electric bill. This power strip by Japan-based Ubiquitous is the iRemoTap, and it has a built-in Wi-Fi module. The purpose of the Wi-Fi is so it can send information to connected devices in the household. The iRemoTap can automatically send out some sort of message like an email or tweet so you know how much energy that you are consuming. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
