Black & Decker Alligator Lopper

Image
On occasion there is a tool that you really don’t absolutely need, but could still be justifiably useful. Sure, you probably mostly want it because it’s awesome, but it still could be very useful. It has slightly more versatility than a chain saw, it can do some of the things you’d do with a chainsaw and hedge clippers. Plus, it’s a whole lot tougher looking than a set of hedge clippers. The cut capacity is up to 4 inches and has a 4.5 amp motor. The clamping jaws make cutting through branches fast and easy. They’re like a giant pair of scissors, they’re just a whole lot meaner. It appears that this needs to be plugged in, but I really can’t say for sure. It would be more convenient if you didn’t always have to deal with a cord, but it’s not too bad of a deal either way. You can pick up the Alligator Lopper for a little over $100. Source: OhGizmo

Decorate Your Keyboard With Decals

Image
Most people put some kind of skin on the outside of their laptop, making it much more original and personal. Well now you can take things another step further and decorate the inside as well. There are several attractive keyboards available, so I could see many being interested in making their current keyboard a little more attractive on their laptop. This one is a rainbow print that’ll make you look like a Skittles addict. The stickers are made by special material-Avery MPI. If you get bored of them, you can always peel them off and go back to the original look. These are of course made specifically for a MacBook, so those of you with other laptops will probably have a harder time getting something like this. For those that do have the necessary hardware it will cost you $14.99 through Etsy. Source: Crunchgear

Cordless Touchscreen Digital Cookbook

Image
Want an iPad so badly but that miserly husband of yours can’t be bothered to get one for you? Well, you know the fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not pick up the Cordless Touchscreen Digital Cookbook and pretend that you’re running an iCook app or something of the equivalent, humming away happy tunes to maintain an upbeat mood while you whip up super delicious dishes to serve hubby when he arrives home from work, hoping to find an opening in the conversation during dinner as to why an iPad is worth a thousand of these Cordless Touchscreen Digital Cookbooks, being full well capable of doing much, much more. Who knows? It might be worth a shot!

Teddy Bear Robot from Fujitsu

Image
Fujitsu is very proud of their newest Teddy Bears, and these are certainly not like any Teddy Bears I know. Man, even Teddy Ruxpin would kill himself if he were still alive today. Teddy Ruxpin was this bear that was able to talk when you put cassette tapes in his back, for those who don’t remember the eighties. The Fujitsu Teddy Bear Robot has much more than that, as it has 13 sensors all over its body. I have heard that it can do about 300 behaviors. For example, if you smile at it, the nose-mounted camera will detect it, and the bear will smile back. That’s right, it has a camera mounted in its nose. Makes your nanny-cam look like child’s play, doesn’t it? My Source barely had any information on this, and it looks more like experimental tech rather than something with a projected release date or price. I can tell you what it reminds me of: A.I. . Yes, I realize that some of you have almost forgotten about this Spielberg flick with all the robots, but the kid

D-BOX in a Megaplex 20

Image
During CES 2009, I had a chance to try out a D-BOX seat, and I was completely blown away. The seat moved with the film. Speakers were mounted so the sound was life-like. It was quite an experience, and I wanted one of these at home. It would appear that D-BOX Technologies is going to have a whole theater full of these seats with the Megaplex 20 in a District in South Jordan. It will be the first movie theater to equip an auditorium with 28 D-BOX MFX seats. That is about four rows, and that will make them the most coveted seats in the house. The theater plans on being open just in time for Walk Disney’s summer blockbuster The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time . Something tells me that it will certainly be quite an experience with these seats. Personally, this theater is a step in the right direction, and I look forward to a day when every theater has these types of seats. Just think of all the great action that will be in the theaters then. With a little 3D, w

CableBox helps conceal cable clutter

Image
The CableBox aims to solve an age old dilemma (for as long as computers have existed anyways), where you have to combat a whole bunch of snaking wires that seem to have a life of their own, rearranging themselves whenever you’re not around, creating a tangled mess in the process. The CableBox helps minimize that as it conceals cable clutter, coming in the form factor of a minimalist design. All you need to do is stuff the spaghetti of cables within and voila! – you have a much neater workspace from where you can keep family and friends fooled into thinking what a neat person you are. Available in Mini Blue and Large Black or White colors for £24.99 and £39.99 respectively, either model will sport rubberized padding that protects floors as well as openings on either end.

Your pet will love you for bringing the Therapy Pet Jacket home

Image
Those of us who see our dogs and cats as more than just a pet, but rather, a family member instead, will find that the Therapy Pet Jacket is one nifty device to purchase for Fido. After all, this cozy and fleecy therapy jacket is reversible and can be made hot or cold depending on the situation at hand. It works great for pets in situations such as suffering from an injury, a muscle pain, hip dysplasia, or even arthritis. Apart from that, it can also be used to treat a plethora of ailments such as tendonitis, bursitis, ligament injuries, spinal disorders, post-op rehabilitation and injury recoveries . You can strap both hot and cold packs to it, where it will offer additional warmth or coldness when the situation calls for it. A couple of closure straps and a Velcro-type system helps secure it in place just in case Fido is a particularly active pooch. Fitting any pet from 5 pounds to 200 pounds, it ought to work just fine with any pet – even Garfield. Depending on your pet

Mister Steamy Dryer Balls

Image
Dryer balls are nothing new, they’re just a rubber ball that takes the place of fabric softener. Just don’t ever use them in the winter, unless you enjoy your clothes being absolutely filled with static electricity. Well normal dryer balls are pretty dull, but these new ones could be pretty handy. Instead of just keeping clothes soft, this will steam all of your clothes while they’re in the dryer. The hotter the ball gets the more it shoots out steam. As it bounces through the dryer cycle it will get rid of all of those wrinkles in your clothing. Although the dryer will take care of a lot of wrinkles, there are certain types of clothing that still show quite a bit of wrinkles. In those cases you could keep yourself from being forced to drag out the ironing board as long as you use this ball. It works by just filling it up with water and tossing it in with your clothes. You can pick one up for $14.98 through Taylor Gifts. Source: Bookofjoe

Ithaca College Tots program uses Wii Balance Board

Image
I’m sure that most of our readers who are parents know how important it is when a child learns to walk. I have three young children who have gone through that particular rite of passage, but I take for granted that there are a lot of toddlers who can’t walk at all. In all honesty, I am not certain I would know how to raise a child that couldn’t learn to walk, but a study at Ithaca known as Ithaca College Tots on Bots helps babies with physical disabilities using something that many households have: a Wii Balance Board. As you can see, the toddler sits on a specially made chair that sits on a Wii Balance Board. That board has some wheels on the bottom, and a baby can go along by simply leaning in the appropriate direction. This toddler Wii-board wheelchair also has sonar that will avoid crashes, and there is a remote control that is enabled so an adult can take control at will. I suppose that adult wheelchairs could be made with this same technology, but

Heated Dining Room Table

Image
It never fails, no matter where I go I am always the one that’s frozen. Everyone else could be almost sweating and I’m resisting the urge to shiver. If you’re also cold natured, then this is definitely the table for you. This Japanese design will keep you warm while you sit in that drafty dining room. Of course if you’re the only one cold, you’re going to end up roasting whoever else is stuck at the table. The table is from Hidakagu and has a 360 watt infrared heater underneath of the table itself. It is designed to keep your legs and lower torso warm. The table was actually inspired by the traditional Kotatsu, which is a low table/blanket/heater combination that wasn’t designed for dining. This table takes the two and combines them. Unfortunately, I don’t see a whole lot of information on purchasing these just yet. Source: OhGizmo

Have fun swimming with the crocodiles

Image
I’m sure that most of you have seen Jaws , and remember the scene where Richard Dreyfuss goes underwater in a shark cage. Yeah, it didn’t turn out well for him, but Jaws was no ordinary shark. I suppose that is the best way to see a shark up close without getting hurt, and the same applies to crocodiles. This is the Cango Wildlife Ranch, an endangered species breeding center in Oudtshoom, South Africa, and it has a “croc cage” that must be an insurance nightmare. Yeah, you might not want to stick your hands through the bars. It has two crocodiles swimming around that are about 14 feet long, and the Ranch doesn’t chum the waters to get the crocs to swim any closer. Yeah, I’m kind of glad they don’t do that. My source on this one is somewhat old (two years, which is ancient in Internet time), so I’m not certain whether or not a person can still do this. According to the Source, it costs about £20 per person, and anyone under the age of 12 is not permitt

AS&E’s Z Backscatter Vans are like scanners on wheels

Image
Some of you might remember the Thruvision TS4 scanner, a way to see through a body without the use of radiation. There has been much talk about privacy issues with these types of scanners. The issue just got more interesting with the AS&E’s Z Backscatter Vans. These Vans are able to bounce a narrow stream of x-rays through nearby objects. Absorbed rays show dense material such as steel, but scattered rays can indicate less-dense objects like explosives, drugs or human bodies. I’m sure you are probably imagining these things being used on the border, possibly to detect illegal aliens. Rest assured, that these ZBV things can identify people, but not by race, sex, or age. Apparently, the company has customers on every continent except Antarctica, which is a little scary. Especially since I would prefer not being scanned too closely. I can’t see any embarassing features from the five or so people trapped in this transport, apparently. You know how in movies,

Solar Powered Gear

Image
If your patio steps are away from any source of light, it can make walking down them tricky for any clumsy relatives you might have visiting. Thankfully there are these tiny lights that don’t require you to do any wiring to get them up and running. Just hook them up and they’ll help you make your steps a little safer. They just sit in the very corner of your steps and during the day soak up a little sun. Then at night they’ll kick on all on their own. It only needs 2 hours of solar charging will keep it shining all night long. Then when the sun comes up again, the light will kick on automatically. You can purchase a set of 4 for $54. Keep the kids occupied with headrest emulators

Image
We know that kids these days who have had a taste of modern video games will probably pooh pooh the 8-bit and 16-bit titles of yore, mainly because there are no snazzy 3D graphics to look at. Well, that’s because they have a choice, but bundle them into a car on a 3-day long road trip and see whether they will change their mind or not. Instead of looking out the window and going through their favorite movies time and again, why not “torture” them with this product from Chinavasion? It is an in-car AV entertainment system which will swap out headrests on the front seats for two DVD players that have an LCD display, an FM transmitter and an NES/SNES emulator for the kids to enjoy, although the generic looking gamepads will make you lose some of that authentic feel. Heck, your $175 purchase even comes with a CD full of 550+ classic ROMS – of course, the legality of the situation is rather questionable. Perhaps this would help them appreciate Zelda in his 2D glory.

Sony rolls out new DSLRs

Image
Sony is back in the digital camera game, introducing new models which are powered by the world’s first translucent mirror technology that paves the way for simultaneous auto focus and capture in an interchangeable lens digital camera. These new models are capable of deliver continuous phase detect AF during 10 fps High-Speed Shooting and Full HD Movie Shooting moments. The two models that we’re talking about would hail from the Alpha range, where they are known as the SLT-A55V and the SLT-A33. Just what is Translucent Mirror Technology, you ask? More on that in the extended post. Translucent Mirror Technology basically delivers performance that was previously unattainable with traditional DSLR technology. Both the a55 and a33 models are able to continuously and quickly focus (with TTL phase-detection) while shooting stills and recording video, even when you decide to take the full HD route, letting desired moments to be captured in tack sharp focus, high-defini

Epson has two more projectors for the market

Image
Epson seems to do really well in the projector market, churning out new models time and again, making them the number-one selling projector brand worldwide. Well, they certainly aren’t going to rest on their laurels, having announced a couple of affordable, feature-packed and easy to use projectors which will target both small and medium-sized businesses. We will look at the Epson PowerLite 1220 and the PowerLite 1260, where the former will cost $649 while the latter is a Benjamin more expensive. The PowerLite 1220 will feature XGA resolution, while the PowerLite 1260 has a higher resolution at widescreen WXGA, boasting 16:10 aspect ratio in order to fully utilize the capabilities of a widescreen notebook. Both models will sport 2600 lumens color and white light output that ought to make them suitable for bright presentations and true-to-life color. We will look at both models in greater detail after the jump. First off, the Epson PowerLite 1200 series will del

Cable Capture Stacker

Image
Want to end cable clutter once and for all? That can be achieved using the Cable Capture Stacker, a new way of organizing and hiding the mess of cords, regardless of whether they come from a stereo, boombox, computer, video games console, home appliance, TV, lamp – you name it, it can handle all of those with aplomb (up to a reasonable degree, of course, until someone perfects the wireless power technology that we’ve seen a glimpse of in the form of the Palm Touchstone. The Cable Capture Stacker tower is able to hold half a dozen cords of up to 8 feet in length on individual “pods” neatly in order to make tangling of wires and cords a thing of the past, relieving your house of another eyesore in the process. It isn’t that expensive either, retailing for $24.95 a pop. All it takes is a simple twist for a pod to be unlocked, letting you work with a separate cord. Want to put it back? Just twist it again and you’re good to go.

Mini Cannon takes out beer mugs

Image
This is one of those weapons you’d expect the bad guy in a movie to start laughing at, only to get his eye taken out by the surprisingly powerful miniature cannon. Although if it were a movie, it would actually kill the person, whereas this cannon probably wouldn’t go quite that far. The itty bitty brass cannon is fully functioning and can absolutely destroy a decent sized beer mug. To work the cannon you just do the same as you would with a full-sized, everything is just a whole lot tinier. It requires a very small amount of gun powder, steel balls and a fuse. Thankfully you don’t just get a picture of the cannon, but you can watch a video of it shoot at various objects like a light bulb, an egg and a coke can. It just doesn’t get much better than an adorably miniature cannon. Source: Geekologie

RadioShack ready to rock and roll with HTC EVO 4G

Image
Are you ready for the next superphone? Just what makes a phone “super” in the first place, you ask? Well, HTC’s EVO 4G fits the bill perfectly – after all, it is the first 4G smartphone in North America, and the good folks over at RadioShack are more than willing to roll out one of these puppies to you, where it will remain a Sprint-exclusive device at the moment. RadioShack customers who are interested will be able to place a pre-order of this exciting new device at any one of more than 4,000 RadioShack stores from May 14th onwards, so if you haven’t done so already, what’s keeping you? After all, it offers far superior hardware compared to the Google Nexus One which was dubbed a superphone by the Big G themselves, so why not check out the hardware specifications right after the jump before taking the plunge? If you are interested in placing a pre-order, you can do so by picking up a $50 RadioShack gift card that can be applied toward the purchase price of the device,

Cherry Chomper

Image
Whoever loves cherries would definitely find that getting the pits out to be the most inconvenient experience. Good thing there are gizmos like the Cherry Chomper that for a mere £12.99, will pit cherries on your behalf. All you need to do is place a cherry in its mouth, press the head and you’re good to go – the rapid plunging action will push the stone through the cherry, leaving it perfectly pitted and ready to eat (or to use in cakes). Not only that, when you’re done with your cherry run, just pop it into the dishwasher for it to be ready to jump into action the next time. Each purchase comes with a little recipe booklet to expand your culinary horizons, and if you ever get sick of cherries, bear in mind it does olives as well…

Illuminating Full Page Magnifier

Image
With all the craze that is surrounding eBook readers and the pseudo-Apple version known as the iPad, you might just wonder whether a regular tome would become extinct in due time? Well, that certainly doesn’t look like it, and there are still millions of folks worldwide who won’t mind going to bed with a good book. If you’re single that’s fine since you can do what you like in your own bedroom, but how about those whose spouses are of the polar opposite and cannot sleep unless it is pitch dark? The Illuminating Full Page Magnifier might just help your case, as this LED-illuminated floor magnifier offers a bright, 10″-wide view which spans a full page of a book. It comes with a 8″ x 10″ acrylic lens that offers a 30% larger field of view than traditional circular lenses without any distortion, letting you quickly scan with both eyes. Thanks to its scratch-resistant lens, objects appear three times their actual size while a dozen LEDs cast expansive, bright light without t

Motion Activated Wall Switch Spy Camera

Image
You can’t seem to trust anyone these days, which could very well be the reason behind more and more spy gizmos that are hitting the market. Here we have the Motion Activated Wall Switch Spy Camera which is pretty much self explanatory – it will record video whenever it detects movement within range, storing all footage onto a microSD memory card (up to 8GB) for your review later. Not only does it do video, but it also records audio so that you can be sure whatever your partner is discussing with a member of the opposite gender remains strictly business and nothing personal. It is a snap to install, and uses very little juice so you won’t notice a huge rise in your monthly power bill. With a 13 days standby time and 6 hours of recording, it will store all video in the MP4/AVI format at 640 x 480 resolution, snapping 2-megapixel stills as well if the need requires. Too bad the range of 3 meters is a tad short for a larger room, but otherwise it should do OK in a

Embrace Infant Warmer for developing countries

Image
Where most of us are at, infants have a real fighting chance, even when there are complications with their birth. However, there are still plenty of areas of this world where that isn’t the case. The Embrace was designed just for those developing countries. This instant infant warmer will keep infants warm during those crucial hours after a premature baby has been born. This has the potential to reduce infant mortality in areas of the world that are heavily poverty-stricken. It uses hot water and gets to the ideal 37-38 degrees Celsius. Once it has reached that temperature it wraps up the infant tight to make sure they stay warm. Amazingly, unlike other medical products this has managed to stay at a reasonable price. They’ll be mass produced and sold for all of $25 to clinics everywhere. It’s already had a trial run and did quite well in saving Nisha, an infant who needed a little boost in body heat. iBottleopener for your iPhone

Image
Cases offer to protect gadgets, but they should do more than that. After all, some cellphones can double as a flashlight, an MP3 player and even their own miniature computer. It would seem that putting a case that can only do one function on such a versatile gadget is just wrong. Thankfully there is the iBottleopener that can open up your beers and keep your iPhone safe. This case won’t even block any ports, so you can plug it in without needing to take off the case. Beyond the bottle opener on the back it’s a pretty simple case. It’ll work for your iPhone 3G/3Gs and it’ll soon fit the iPhone 4. It will cost you $19.95 for one of these cases, plus a little extra in shipping and handling. Source: Technabob

Koala Indoor Faucet Connector

Image
I’ve never had a thought to buy a connector that would allow a hose to be hooked up to the indoor faucet. Yet it actually would open up a whole lot of possibilities. Although I can’t see much use for a hose indoors, but having a hose that could offer warm or hot water could be handy for various tasks though. One of the big ones is giving the dog a bath. I’ve never liked giving a dog a bath indoors, but it seems mean to make them shiver in ice cold water. If the weather is warm enough you could shove a hose through the doorway that pumps warm water into a bin large enough to hold hot water for the dog. There are other possibilities of course, you only have to think them up. You can purchase one of the connectors for $9.95 through Exterior Accents. Source: Bookofjoe

Samsung outs 90 and 30 Series Monitors with HDTV Tuners

Image
Samsung grabs the headlines yet again with 90 and 30 Series Monitors which will come equipped with HDTV Tuners, letting viewers switch between work and play easily, boasting enhanced picture quality without taking up additional space in your living room/work area. Both the 30 and 90 series monitors can function as a small TV if you happen to live in an apartment, but it will not compromise in terms of quality since it can deliver full HD resolution while boasting Picture in Picture (PiP) for multi-tasking users to use their computer for work while watching the latest news reports in a corner of the display without the need for another monitor or coughing up extra for more connections. These monitors will be equipped with a couple of HDMI inputs for easy connection to multiple HD devices, be they cable boxes, video game consoles or Blu-ray players amongst others. Samsung’s Connectshare feature will also introduce a new dimension where multi-media capabilities ar

These models are proud to be the first interchangeable lens cameras with an APS-C sensor in the world that is able to continuously adjust focus and exposure while recording

Recycled iPod Turned Into Clock

Image
We have all went to grab for our favorite electronic only to receive that sinking feeling that something has gone terribly wrong with it. I have that problem with my iPod at the moment and if it turns out not to be fixable then I would hope to find something like this clock to make sure that it stays usable even after its prime has passed. Sure, this is an incredibly dorky way to check the time, but at least it temporarily keeps one electronic from rotting away in the local dump. The iPod has had a clock inserted into it that uses a USA made quartz drive movement. The whole thing measures 2.5” wide by 6.5” tall. In order to keep it up and running you’ll just need one simple AA battery. Also if you should want something of yours turned into a clock, you can always contact them to work out a deal. This particular device will cost you $39 through Etsy. Source: GeekyGadgets

Mickey Mouse Head discharges static

Image
In the winter I’m notorious for getting shocked on any and all nearby metal objects as well as shocking most people I come in contact with. I had no idea that it could build up so bad that you can actually visibly see the spark. Thankfully there are static dischargers to save the chronically staticy from regularly receiving small shocks. This Mickey Head is a very cute way to make your life a whole lot less shocking. Plus you get to see it working. When you touch it the light bulb flashes to show that it’s discharging the static electricity. It’s attached to a keychain to make sure that you can keep it nearby you at all times. To pick one up it’ll cost you $18 through Brando. Source: CraziestGadgets

iPod Resonance Speaker

Image
If you liked the old iMac monitors then you’ll love this speaker stand. It looks a whole lot like the stand those monitors used to sit on. It’s a quirky design and in some ways a little bit unnecessary, but if you’re a little nostalgic about your iMac then it’s a good way to keep it on your mind. Plus it plays your music out loud. This does come through Chinavasion, which always makes me at least pause to wonder how great the quality is on the devices they sell. They are a great way to get gadgets that those of us in t he US might not have normally been able to purchase though. The docking station has a 12W audio output and can accommodate either an iPod or an iPhone . You can purchase it for $41.07. Source: Ubergizmo

Japanese wedding officiated by a robot “I-Fairy”

Image
Whenever you get married, you have to plan a lot of things. One of them is who is going to officiate at the wedding. This one couple in Tokyo decided to opt for a robot to officiate, and there is a video of “I-Fairy” in action after the jump. The I-Fairy is made by a Japanese company Kokoro. The bride, Satoko Inoue, works for Kokoro, and groom Tomoshiro Shibato is a professor of robotics at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology. The I-Fairy is remote controlled by one of the attendants at the 50-guest wedding. It does talk, and has 18 joints in its arms. Some of you might find this a little creepy. I would have to say: “just wait”. I believe that once robots start doing other sacraments of the church, such as confessionals, last rites, and baptisms, then we can say whether or not we’ve gone too far. So, is this the beginning of some new era of robot-officiated weddings? I suppose that they really need to have these in Vegas. Maybe they could be coin-ope

Disney’s Star Tours closing, but will be back

Image
I remember back in 1987, I had a chance to go on Star Tours at Disneyland. I had to wait almost two hours, and it was quite an experience. I would imagine that after twenty years, the effects of Star Tours would look pretty mediocre in the era of CG effects. It would appear that Disney feels the same way as they are planning on giving Star Tours an update. This means that Star Tours is going to be temporarily shut down. The one in Disneyland will shut down on July 27th, and the one in Disneyworld will begin its end on September 8th. Disney has shared that by the time the ride will be rebuilt in May 2011, it will have a 3D screen. I have no idea if the users will have to wear glasses, as I know that we have the technology to make glasses free 3D, especially if it is the same clip played every time. I also heard that it will feature…podracing? Oh no, we are getting into Star Wars prequel territory here. I remember when I visited Star Tours, there was a droid that w

Lovable Robot USB Hubs

Image
Now this is a robot you don’t have to worry about taking over the world. When everything has been taken over by robots, these will stay happily neutral thanks to their simple function. Even their look is completely harmless, since they look more similar to what we believed robots would look like about 50 years ago. Now that we’re closer to an age of robots, we have a much more sophisticated idea of robots, obviously. The robot has a total of 4 USB ports, one on each arm and then one on the bottom of each foot. The location of the second set seems a little inconvenient. In order to use all 4 you’d have to lay down the robot flat instead of letting it proudly stand at attention on your desk. This comes in 6 different colors and each color has a different design. You can pick it up in red, pink, black, gray, light blue and yellow. Each one costs $18.95. Source: ChipChick

The iAngle simplies your gadget loving life

Image
Some of the best of gadgets are the most simple ones you’ll find. This one even has more than one function, but it does it so simply that it’s a breath of fresh air. Plus it means you’ll have less clutter in your laptop bag and even your pockets. Should you have an iPhone or iPod Touch this is the way to watch your movies and keep from having to hold your iPhone the whole time. After you’ve finished watching your movie and want to move on, it has a completely separate function. You know those earbuds that tend to stay tangled in your pockets, this will actually help you keep them a little more organized. The absolute best part of the iAngle is actually the price though. Balancing Cube Robot from Zurich!

Image
I realize that the title of this sounds like some low-budget science fiction film from the fifties or the sixties, but is a real thing. I have included a video of this product from Sebastian Trimpe and Raffaello D’Andrea at the Institute of Dynamic Systems and Control researchers. This is the Balancing Cube. Yes, don’t ask me why it called the Balancing Cube is called a cube when it is clearly some triangular 3D star thing. I guess they didn’t like the sound of that. Anyway, special sensors and motors manage to shift the weights around in it so it will stay perfectly balanced on a point. Can I just say that this is a very neat technology working here? Or are we just used to technology offering us perfect balance? Yes, we live in a post Segway world, but I think we have lost all sense of wonder with perfect balance. I mean, it took me years to master riding a bike when I was a kid, and it was always the whole balancing part that just amazed me. Anyway, I notice

Anybots Avatar Robots

Image
This is a prototype “Avatar robot” from a company called Anybots. It works just like the avatar program in Avatar , but instead of putting yourself inside a giant blue person, you put it in a robot. Okay, the technology isn’t quite there yet, but you can access the avatar robot from the Internet, and this robot known as QB activates its 5-megapixel camera. From there, you can manipulate the “head” to about five or six feet up for a better view. Speaking of views, you will may note the screen on top. This was made to have a face shot of the controller. You will note that it appears to be perfectly balanced on two wheels, a la Segway. I would imagine that it could probably be pushed over if you really want to. For example, if your boss decided to micro-manage you, and one of these QB robots was constantly hovering over your shoulder. I suppose these robots could also be used for attending a meeting, provided the robot doesn’t distract the attendees. Well, the QB

This iPhone Has A Growth

Image
The iStand makes all of your tiny handheld gadgets look like they’ve acquired a very strangely colored zit. You’re not going to want to pop this one though since it is meant to make using your phone or MP3 player a little bit easier. Don’t worry, it won’t damage the back of your iPhone either, it just attaches by a suction cup leaving your phone no more damaged than it was before. These strange balls allow for your iPhone to sit up on your desk, letting you watch videos without holding it in place. Then you can also just hang onto the ball itself so that your hand doesn’t get in the way of anything you’re doing on your handheld device. These come in white, pink, orange, blue, purple, black and green. You can purchase one for £4.49 or about $6.60 through LazyBone UK. Source: NerdApproved

The Pincher is designed to take out explosives

Image
I know what this looks like. You’re probably thinking that: “Oh no, it is a Star Wars/Terminator/Matrix/Battlestar Galactica/any other science fiction franchise robot that is designed to take out enemies. Are the humans its next target?” Actually, from what I have been reading from my sources, this robot, also known as “Pincher” is designed to disable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from a long distance. It apparently uses rockets the size of pencils to destroy the explosive charges, which will make them burn, not explode in a process known as “deflageration”. I’m guess that it does this via remote control with a video camera and laser pointer. Then it uses “pyrophoric” rockets for its job. In other words, this is not designed to be a weapon. Sure, I suppose that you could reprogram the thing so its pyrophoric pencil-sized rockets could be targeted at us fleshy mortals, but you can always use something technological to hurt someone. Heck, you can do that wit

BlueAnt rolls out S4 Bluetooth car speakerphone

Image
BlueAnt has just introduced its latest device known as the S4, where this is touted to be the first true hands-free voice controlled Bluetooth car speakerphone. What does this mean for the driver? Well, for the first time, drivers are able to communicate on the road without having to touch either their phone or car speakerphone – now how about that? All you need to do is speak to the BlueAnt S4 if you want to make or receive calls, or even access information on the phone itself. Before starting, clear your throat and say the hands-free trigger phrase “BlueAnt Speak To Me” at any time, and watch the S4 more than ready and willing to serve you at every beck and call. Following that, say the command to activate your phone’s voice dialing feature, and you can make a call by mentioning the person’s name. Works great if you are familiar with your very own naming convention on the phone, but we’re not too sure how many of us out there are able to remember every single name key

The price is touted to be half the cost of comparable signal boosters, but is said to offer up to 10 times more power than competitive products. It is meant to be used in a vehicle primarily, retailing for $129.95. You can also use it in tandem with a Bluetooth headset and other hands

As Much As You Need Light

Image
You can get floor lamps with multiple lights that let you position just how much and where you want the light. When it comes to your desk though, you’re usually left with limited options. You either have the full power of your desk light or nothing at all. This concept design allows for you to have a little more customization when it comes to your lighting needs at your desk. It has a design that will probably remind most people of Apple products, which is by no means a bad thing. With the light you just select with you fingertips just how much or how little of the light you actually want to use. You can even choose which side of the lamp you want the light to be powered on. It was designed by Hong-Kue Lee, so it’s not something the you can pick up right now. Source: Yanko

Not Your Grandfather’s Pocket Watch

Image
Usually you picture a pocket watch and it’s something slipped inside of an elderly man’s pocket. This is definitely not that kind of a pocket watch. This Kisai Round Trip Pocket Watch is better suited for those that like flashing LED lights and random USB gadgets. This isn’t attached to a chain either, but it can be easily hooked onto other items to make transporting it more convenient. You can hook it onto your keys or even onto a clip so you can easily hook it onto your belt loop or a bag. It charges up through a USB port and comes with a key ring. In order to check the time you just press a button and it’ll illuminate the face of the watch. The hours are orange, the blue are groups of 3 minutes and the green are single minutes. Voice Control Helicopter

Image
Are you frustrated that whatever you tell your kids seem to fall on deaf ears? Then the Voice Control Helicopter might come in handy, although it is rather sad that you will need to fork out £39.99 to have a mechanical contraption obey your commands. This ingenious Voice Control Helicopter is smart enough to respond to your commands, and will be able to obey five pre-loaded commands. All you need to do is wear the microphone set (which somewhat resembles a Bluetooth headset) and start sending out commands to show who’s boss. You will be able to tell it to start its engines, head up higher or go lower, to hover in mid-air or even move forwards and backwards. Not only that, there are LED lights that make it look all the more cooler, while juicing up the Voice Control Helicopter is a snap. Folks who speak in French or Spanish will also be able to have a go at it, making this a truly intercontinental flight.
