CamBall rolls into the US


Personal video camcorders have certainly come a long way since their introduction many years ago, and technologies in such devices have also progressed by leaps and bounds that High Definition recording capability was already achieved a few years back on a pocket-sized device. Well, what else can manufacturers do to up the ante? CamBall, as you can tell by its name, could very well be the next step of evolution for personal video camcorders. After all, it measures roughly the size of a mere golf ball (!) and yet is able shoot video virtually anytime, anywhere. Sure, it will not be able to do High Definition video recording, but that is all right considering the rather miniscule size of the device.

Hitting the US market at long last, the CamBall is touted to be the smallest personal digital camcorder on the market at press time, where it comes jam packed with features. It is wearable, mountable, and waterproof sporting optional motion-activation capabilities, making it perfect for capturing home security and surveillance monitoring video, not to mention water and extreme sports footage. You will be able to choose from a couple of models which would be the CamBall SG-31 and SG-30, where the former adds motion detection to the latter’s standard features. As for their shared specifications, they would be as follows :-

  • 320 x 240 resolution at 25 fps for video or snapshots

  • 128MB built-in memory
  • SD memory card slot for additional storage (up to 16GB)
  • Battery provides 2.5 hours of continual recording & up to 12 hours on power-saving mode

Just like any good marketing team would do, the CamBall will also come with a range of optional accessories, including a CamBall mount for concealed placement alongside a power adaptor extension cord. You will be able to bring home the CamBall SG-30 for $149.99, while the SG-31 that has motion-activation is more expensive by a considerable margin at $199.99.

Wi-Fi Connected Power Strip

If you are like me, you have “that desk” in your house that is sort of the hub for digital information. On the desk is a laptop or desktop computer, and all kinds of accessories. Chances are, all of these devices are plugged in to a power strip, and they are a source of great power consumption on your monthly electric bill. This power strip by Japan-based Ubiquitous is the iRemoTap, and it has a built-in Wi-Fi module. The purpose of the Wi-Fi is so it can send information to connected devices in the household. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
