Garmin announces chirp wireless beacon



Garmin has just announced their latest unique wireless beacon that was specially designed for those who love geocaching their outdoor adventures. Meaning to target just about anyone and everyone who loves the great outdoors, the Garmin chirp is not only affordable, but is extremely durable and waterproof as well. The Garmin chirp can communicate with, as well as be programmed by, just about any compatible wireless-enabled Garmin handheld for a more interactive and enjoyable geocaching experience. Those who fall under the cache creators and seekers categories will be able to enjoy the benefits as chirp stores hints, transmits multicache coordinates, counts visitors and confirms the cache is nearby.

According to Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, “With chirp, geocachers have a new tool to enhance the joys of creating and finding caches around the globe. In listening to and participating in the vibrant geocaching community, Garmin created a one-of-a-kind device that builds on popular innovations such as paperless geocaching and downloading cache details directly to the device.”

For those who are not in the know, geocaching is a high-tech version of hide-and-seek – participants will have to explore the outdoors in search of hidden treasure and adventure, and the chirp’s wireless interactivity will be able to usher in a world of possibilities for creative caches. Those who are more experienced will find the countless options available useful in creating cutting-edge caches. As for beginners, they will definitely appreciate chirp’s features which make those caches easier to find. Features include simplicity in use and password-protection for added peace of mind. With chirp, setting up and maintaining a multicache is now so easy, that you can use your compatible Garmin handheld device (such as Oregon, Dakota and the recently announced GPSMAP handhelds) to automatically transmit program coordinates so other cachers can find each stage of your multicache. Retailing for $22.99 a pop, chirp should be worth looking into.

If you are like me, you have “that desk” in your house that is sort of the hub for digital information. On the desk is a laptop or desktop computer, and all kinds of accessories. Chances are, all of these devices are plugged in to a power strip, and they are a source of great power consumption on your monthly electric bill. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
