Asus and Amimon announce WHDI 3D gaming video kit


Just when you though Asus had already had a big day with announcing four tablets, they have now created the WHDI-based WAVI, the very first wireless PC-to-TV gaming package.

Asus teamed up with Amimon to create this service that allows the user to wirelessly connect a desktop PC to a television with 3D content. The end result is playing 3D PC video games and/or movies on any 3D capable HDTV.


According to Amimon, the WHDI standard used by the Asus WAVI is capable of delivering the highest image quality, which is uncompressed 1080p/60Hz HD video, from up to 100 feet away, through walls, and can support multiple wireless links, so you can stream from one source to multiple TVs. The standard utilizes a 40MHz channel in the 5GHz unlicensed band.

As for controlling the unit itself, it is maintained via virtual USB link for controlling the PC from a distance rather than the television.

By the way, did I mention that Asus is also working on a Wavi Xtion system with two Wavi boxes and a camera that looks like a Kinect for operating a PC with gestures.

Hands on with the Kensington Pro Fit Washable Keyboard

Whenever I get a chance to try out a keyboard to review for a post, it is my tradition to write the article about it on the keyboard itself. Most of these keyboards are all alike, and this one isn’t wireless like the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750. It is USB and PS2 compatible, and it is good to go if you want to wash it. When I say washable, I mean that you can run the keyboard under a running faucet with soap, disinfectant, or bleach, and then air dry it. It’s all good, just keep the connector out of the water. I would imagine that this would be the perfect keyboard to have around in a medical facility, where germs and other bloodborne pathogens are a job hazard. It even has built-in antimicrobial material for “continuous microbe resistance”. I do have one complaint about the 104-key layout. The right Shift key is quite far away from where I normally rest my pinky finger. I suppose that I could adapt to that, but I don’t know how long it would take. T...

iPad

There’s an app for that – and in the case of the iPad (or iPad 2, it is your call), surely this must be one of the zanier ways to promote or advertise an app. The iPad Head Girl as she is called, is actually an advertising campaign by viral marketing company Thinkmodo, as they decided to come up with this unique looking piece of headgear which looks really realistic, sporting a girl covering her head with four iPads standing in a vertical manner. This ad intends to promote the launch of what used to be a girly magazine – but it has been injected with plenty of testosterone, calling it Cosmo for Guys. Since many guys love gadgets, it makes sense that Cosmo for Guys is an iPad exclusive magazine courtesy of Hearst – no newsstand copies for you to look out for!
