Ningen Gakki makes the body into an instrument


This flamboyant poster with the tiny robot man is an ad for the Ningen Gakki.

The Ningen Gakki is made by Takara Tomy, and the name translates from the Japanese to “human instrument”. It is named this because that is what it does: turns your flesh into something that plays music better than you can.

It can be used by four people, and it works by having each of the players pinching the silver parts which are actually electrodes. This makes the entire body a musical instrument, and touching the skin creates activates a contact and very musical sound. You should definitely hit the jump if you want to see this.

The Ningen Gakki has several modes. One is a performance mode, which allows the user a chance to play a pre-programmed tune with a vibrato sound. Then there is the drum mode which enables the user ability to play a tuneless percussion by beating different parts of the body.

By the way, beating different parts of the body harder does not mean the sound gets louder. I am wondering if that was this way by design. You don’t want to have someone slapping you silly just to make a rockin’ tune.

The Ningen Gakki by Takara Tomy was on display at a recent conference, and I would imagine it will get on sale soon.

Wi-Fi Connected Power Strip

If you are like me, you have “that desk” in your house that is sort of the hub for digital information. On the desk is a laptop or desktop computer, and all kinds of accessories. Chances are, all of these devices are plugged in to a power strip, and they are a source of great power consumption on your monthly electric bill. This power strip by Japan-based Ubiquitous is the iRemoTap, and it has a built-in Wi-Fi module. The purpose of the Wi-Fi is so it can send information to connected devices in the household. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
