Casio WK-6500 Workstation Keyboard


I remember having a Casio keyboard when I was ninth grade, and it was about the size of my forearm with about 8 rhythms and instruments. That tiny white keyboard would like like a wimp compared to the Casio WK-6500 Workstation Keyboard.

The WK-6500 has a 76-key full size with 670 tones and programs. It has a song sequencer, tone editor, multiple digital effects, mixer, performance registration memory, USB MIDI interface, SD card storage, as well as hundreds of editable tones.

The specs are pretty impressive. It has a rhythm editor that can turn individual instrumental portions on or off and adjust volume, pan reverb and other parameters for personal rhythms, storing up to 10 original rhythms at a time. It also has a 16 track song sequencer plus 1 system to support recording of up to 5 songs or 30,000 notes, with a chance of editing all of them in between. Also included are a wide range of built-in effects like 10 reverbs, 5 choruses, 100 DSP types. All this plus a high-output 2-way bass reflex sound system.

Of course, I don’t really know too much about all that. As I just candidly revealed in my review of the Zumba Fitness 2, I just don’t have the music in me.

Still, something like this makes me want to become a musician. I got a chance to try this out, and I was pretty blown away by it. My daughter took a look at it and said that she wanted to learn piano. I’m sure that something like this could bring about a whole generation of musicians.

Wi-Fi Connected Power Strip

If you are like me, you have “that desk” in your house that is sort of the hub for digital information. On the desk is a laptop or desktop computer, and all kinds of accessories. Chances are, all of these devices are plugged in to a power strip, and they are a source of great power consumption on your monthly electric bill. This power strip by Japan-based Ubiquitous is the iRemoTap, and it has a built-in Wi-Fi module. The purpose of the Wi-Fi is so it can send information to connected devices in the household. The iRemoTap can automatically send out some sort of message like an email or tweet so you know how much energy that you are consuming. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
