JBL OnBeat Xtreme introduced


Do you think the world has had enough of iPod and iPad docks? I guess not, otherwise why would the JBL OnBeat Xtreme be introduced? This is a visually stunning iPad dock that is touted to do more than just offer good looks – it also delivers dynamic, room-filling sound that comes in the form of a table-top stereo system. Specially optimized to work with both versions of Apple’s hugely popular tablet, the JBL OnBeat Xtreme will also come with an innovative rotating dock connector that will play nice with the iPhone and iPod touch – smart move, considering how nearly everyone out there who loves Apple products have more than just one of their devices.

Thanks to the wonders of Bluetooth connectivity, the JBL OnBeat Xtreme will hook up to the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to play when detached from the dock, where it will also “talk” to Android-powered smartphones as well as tablets, not to mention wireless MP3 players, although those are pretty rare when you think about it.

Ideal for rooms as well as offices, the JBL OnBeat Xtreme will complement whatever movies you play on your iPad’s display, while your ears will benefit from award-winning JBL sound. If you want to hold hands-free conversation using Apple’s FaceTime or Skype over the iPad, that is not an issue at all, since the JBL OnBeat Xtreme’s speakerphone will also function with Bluetooth-enabled phones thanks to a built-in microphone. As for the audio, you need not suffer from poor audio quality since all sound will be enhanced using digital sound processing (DSP) and echo cancellation.

The wireless speakers boast of dual Atlas bass drivers and Ridge tweeters that have been optimized by DSP equalization, allowing you to control the iPad docking station’s settings thanks to an OnBeat Xtreme app that can be downloaded for free via the iTunes App Store. This app will put you in full control of playlists and EQ settings, in addition to having an alarm or a sleep timer. Expect to fork out $599 for the JBL OnBeat Xtreme if you are interested.

Change your bike’s gears, with your mind

Lately, I have been teaching my son to ride a bicycle, and it reminds me of my days of awkward bike riding. I remember that I had a hard time with changing the gears, but what if I could do it with my mind? Parlee Cycles is apparently working on a concept bicycle made of carbon fiber that does just that. It is part of Toyota Prius Projects, and it uses a helmet equipped with neurotransmitters to read a wearer’s brainwaves. A wireless transmitter attached to the bike’s seat post gets the signal, and changes the gear. As you might of guessed, this is still a concept. In fact, the developer hasn’t quite got the brain control working and still using a smartphone for the controls. I have heard of neuro-controls being used before, but I am guessing the technology isn’t quite as good as Bluetooth. iMM514 ArtStation Pro

I’ve seen some products from iLuv before, and the iMM514 ArtStation Pro is good for turning an iPad into a home theater. As you can see, the iPad is mounted in an articulated swiveling arm so you can position it at whatever angle you want, in landscape or portrait mode. In case you are wondering why there is such a big base, it is because it has a huge stereo speaker. In other words, this base has bass. There is also a wireless remote for volume and skipping tracks, and it looks like there are some controls on the base for when you lose the remote. As I mentioned before, iLuv has put out a lot of Apple accessories, and I will have to admit that this is one of the most unusual that I have seen. In fact, I am not even sure what kind of aesthetic that this is. The arm thing reminds me of Technic Lego pieces. I suppose the case is like a big Lego brick without and studs on it. Nice.
